Sixty years ago, someone at Seiko noticed the success of the Rolex Perpetual Justdate self-winding watch and thought "what if Seiko made its own self-winding watch and sold it for a lower price than Rolex...a much, much lower price?" The Seiko 5 watch was born.The Seiko 5 is a self-winding automatic watch that has no battery. It automatically winds itself using an internal rotor that spins when you move. This classic design is famous for being reliable and durable. Many owners report 10 or 20 years of good service from their Seiko.Prime Time Shop sells ten or fifteen styles of the Seiko 5. This particular model is also available with a white face or with a dark blue face.The 37mm size was the standard for a man's watch from 1930 to 1990 but 37mm is considered small in 2021. The smaller size makes it light and comfortable for men and women regardless of their wrist size.The stainless steel case and stainless steel bracelet are water resistant for hand washing and a walk in the rain. But NOT for showers, hot tub or swimming.The steel bracelet is comfortable when worn slightly loose. Your wrist expands in the afternoon and in hot weather so looser is better. My watch tech charges $15 for bracelet adjustments and he earns every cent. I went back three times for micro-adjustments before he dialed in the perfect fit. Some reviewers complain that their Seiko 5 stops running or "has a bad battery". The Seiko 5 has NO battery. You pick it up and shake it back and forth for a minute and it starts running. When you move, the winding rotor spins and keeps the watch running.If you are an active person and wear your Seiko 5 for twelve or fourteen hours every day, it will gain or lose only two or three minutes per week, similar to automatic watches costing five times as much. If you wear it less, shake it for a minute before you put it on and for another minute after you take it off. YouTube has videos showing how to do the "Seiko shake". Your hand moves left and right rapidly like a Vegas card dealer.Most versions of the Seiko 5 provide two languages for the day of the week. I set English as my language. After midnight the next day is briefly shown in Spanish before cycling back to English. You have the option to select Spanish as the primary language.A self-winding watch, expensive ones such as Rolex and Omega, and affordable ones such as Seiko and Hamilton, requires no battery and is tough and durable. But avoid intense physical shocks and magnetic sources...computers, tv, cell phones, speakers, iPads. The shock of repeatedly hitting a tennis ball or golf ball might damage the self-winding rotor. Putting your watch on top of a laptop computer or iPad (a magnetic source) might bind the main spring and your watch will suddenly gain five or ten minutes a day. (An experienced watch tech can demagnetize your watch in two minutes for a small fee).A self-winding watch requires you to do a bit of work but you are rewarded by years of reliable service without the expense and inconvenience of ever buying a battery.

Excellent value for money, understated classic looks, premium build and sturdiness

This is just an elegant time piece. I really like the automatic winding feature, you do need to make sure you wear it frequently or give it a few twists to keep it wound. Accuracy is good but varies if not worn frequently enough. That is just a fact of life really. It has a see through back which adds a cool factor to it. This is a nice time piece for dressing up.

Es mi segundo reloj Seiko 5 Automático. El primero que compre fue de un estilo casual y me gusto su tamaño (Soy delgado de muñeca también delgada) y estilo tanto que tome la decisión de buscar uno más formal. Este fue uno de los que me convencieron y me tome el gusto de comprarlo. En principio tenia mis dudas ya que por experiencia en los extensibles resultan dar sensaciones muy "corrientes" en relojes de este precio. Si bien no es un extensible que se pueda conisderar ni de gama media, si es un extensible que no te deja a deber por lo que pagas. Luce muy bien con la caja y lo hace parecer mas caro de lo que pagas por el. Si le cambiaras el extensible por uno de piel negro, también pudiera lucir muy bonito. Estoy muy contento con esta compra.

This is my first automatic watch and I am super happy with my Seiko 5!I didn't know that you aren't supposed to change the time between 22:00 and 03:00, but it doesn't seem to be giving me any problems.In fact, the watch has become ultra-accurate. I've been wearing this watch every day for the past week and it has been keeping time to the second! I haven't had to correct the time after wearing it for the first 24 hours which I assume is because the power reserve is now fully charged?Picked this particular model up at $84 on a Black Friday deal since I'd been eyeing automatic watches for a couple of months before.

I've owned a lot of watches over the years with a keen interest in diver's watches. When I ordered this watch I really understood why Seiko 5s are such practical watches.You just don't want to take it off once you wear it.Keeps accurate time, very light yet you feel it's presence.Highly recommended.

Muy bonito. Le he cambiado la correa por una negra y pues me parece mucho más llamativo. La caja es pequeña. Incluso puede ser para mujer por el tamaño. Pero luce bien si tienes muñeca pequeña o mediana. Para una grande se verá muy pequeño.

Looks good on my 7” wrist. Also ditched the metal strap and bought a nice hand crafted Italian leather strap. Since the watch is pretty cheap, one can afford a nice strap for it. A great buy.

Great looking dress watch but change the metal bracelet to a black leather

Solid automatic watch. Easy to switch out the bracelet to an (18mm) leather bracelet for a different look. Incredible value for the price point.

This watch is absolutely Gorgeous. The original band was too large and I didn't like the clinking sounds it made. I replaced the metal band with an 18mm Navy leather band from Fossil. Looks much better now IMO.

I'm very happy with this purchase. The watch looks great and seems to keep excellent time. The links are a little difficult to remove yourself, but I found a youTube video explaining how to do it.

Just what I needed. No batteries to change. A good back up watch

My first mechanical watch and it is now the most worn out of my watch rotation. The watch is well worth the price, I would have paid double. Not 100% a fan of the bracelet; I bought a leather strap but it was tapered so it looked feminine near the buckle. If you buy this watch and prefer leather straps, get a non-tapered with quick release. I am also thinking about getting a replacement SS bracelet with quick release. Pretty accurate, off a few seconds each day.

The watch looks great, functions perfectly, and the strap is not as bad as others have commented. The scratch resistant crystal is not particularly scratch resistant. I’ve only worn it a handful of times and I can’t recall any real trauma to it, but it is still pretty scratched up. If you’re even remotely hard on a watch, maybe look for a stronger crystal option

Replaces another Seiko 5 that I dropped on ceramic tile (you can't do that to mechanical watches) after five years of ownership. I was very pleased to see that this fine watch was going for such a low price. Very happy with it, especially the dark contrast face that is different from my last one. Basically same watch you could have bought in 1964 but for a whole lot more money. If you're familiar with mechanical watches you will forgive it for dropping a minute a week, this isn't a quartz watch and you'll never need batteries. As long as you wear it or at least shake it now and then it will go forever (just no hard drops onto unforgiving surfaces) You'll be all set for the zombie apocalypse

Es un reloj muy bonito, excelente por el precio; lo conseguí por 1405 pesos y no creo que haya un mejor reloj automático por ese precio. Llevo unos días usándolo y me parece que sí se adelanta algunos segundos. De cualquier forma no se arrepentirán de comprarlo al precio que menciono al principio.

This watch is probably the only watch you'll ever need. I did modify the bracelet and install an 18mm oyster style bracelet. This watch has replaced my Rolex Dayjust 1601.

I bought this watch based on the Seiko 5's reputation that should last some ten years without needing service or replacement and from what I have experienced this far I expect this to remain true. the movement in this watch isn't known for being particularly accurate but the one I received seems to be within 15 seconds fast per week if anything. it's supposed to have a 40 hour reserve but in my experience it lasts overnight and until about mid afternoon the next day unless you put it on. the polished stainless steel looks great with casual clothes or dress and being steel it should resist wear and damage. The Hardlex crystal has already taken a few blows from doorframes and desk corners each time I'm slightly terrified and inspect the crystal but there's still no scratches or chips. the listing implies that the watch is waterproof to 30 meters and some people think you could take it swimming but the product manual states that it's only meant to withstand an accidental splash from hand washing or walking through the rain that it should not be worn in the shower or swimming. overall I'm very pleased with it and I'd recommend it to anyone who's looking for a high quality budget timepiece.

Beautiful, affordable and easy to adjust specially for small wrist

Looks way better in person, it’s a very classic watch which feels and looks like it’s worth a lot more than it’s priced. Saying that, it’s a watch made for people with small wrists or people who prefer smaller watches. It is NOT for people who like big watches, it’s gonna look tiny if you get it expecting to look big.

Was looking for a Christmas present for myself, found this Seiko on sale for $60. I like the black dial and the steel bracelet. It arrived fast. The watch looks even better on the wrist and kept excellent time. It is smaller than my old Seiko SNXS77, not by much, 1mm less in diameter and 2mm in height. It did look smaller. My old watch was the 1st batch of Seiko using 7S26 movement, I bought it in 1997, still running fine after 20 years. It uses 19mm strap vs 18mm for the new SNKK71. You can still buy new SNXS77 here on Prime Time Shop but it cost more at $100. Keep that in mind for anyone prefer big watch. I personally like medium size watch so not a problem for me and save $40 with the smaller watch.

This watch is the best watch I have bought. The price was the biggest factor. It's a well made Japanese watch. Simplistic design, nice brushed aluminum bracelet (a bit flimsy). If you have small wrists like mine this fits perfectly. I do recommend to get a couple of watch bands to make it more versatile. I have a canvas and light leather, it's like having three different watches. I have used this watch since I got it and I have no complaints.

Love this watch. For $80 its a steal. Checked the price now and its $146.00. I was lucky i guess. Looks like an expensive watch. No trouble what so ever with the steel bands.After about a week of use, its touch faster. Variation was about 2 minutes a week and not bad at all.

I've done a fair bit of research before purchasing this watch and was not disappointed whatsoever when first strapped it onto my wrist.- The stock bracelet is fine, but I swapped it out for a leather strap to add a bit of elegance to the watch - I think it looks a lot better like this!- The lumes are quite bright and visible in the dark with just a few seconds of light exposure.- This watch has a decent power reserve up to 40 hours, but it depends on how often you wear it - the longer, the better. This won't be a problem if you wear it every day or at least give it a gentle swirl for a few minutes each day.- Day/date function is nice and clear, and also offers a display in English and French- Absolutely love the glass case back! You can really grow to appreciate the little inner workings of the watch.

It's a Seiko! Good for everyday use and is the right size for me (slim build) and it's automatic too. The metal band feels a little light, but still sturdy and have no issues about purchasing it again.Great as a gift for family or relatives.

A little on the small side and the band feels kind of cheap compared to other watches, the face of the watch is nice and I like automatic mechanical watches. It is still a good value for the price.

Watch is attractive and works well. It is noce to be free from battery replacement.

Very nice handsome watch. Perfect for a smaller wrist. Glass back to see the movement. Band is only so-so and not up to the quality of the watch in my opinion but switched to black leather anyway.
